Common questions

Which DVLA number do I call about road tax?

Vehicle enquiries, 0300 790 6802. It covers vehicle tax, refunds, SORN and the V5C log book.

Is the DVLA number free to call?

0300 numbers are standard rate: they cost the same as calling a 01 or 02 landline and come out of inclusive minutes on almost every plan.

Can I do it online instead?

Most DVLA tasks, taxing a vehicle, SORN, renewing a licence, changing an address, are faster on gov.uk than by phone. Phone when something has gone wrong or the online route rejects you.

I live in Northern Ireland. Is this my number?

No. Northern Ireland driver licensing is run by the DVA in Coleraine, with its own contact details on nidirect.gov.uk.
